Proper Use Of My Not-An-American Flag

There is a on Strobist today that features a model draped in what appears to be an American flag. Of course, someone has posted a comment expressing his disdain for such use of the flag. I don't want to get into a proper use of the flag argument here, but I do want to suggest a new product idea.

The official flag of the USA has a blue field with 50 stars in the upper left corner, and 13 alternating red and white stripes - 7 red and 6 white. The lower part of the blue field ends on the 4th red stripe.

I propose a product with 6 red strips and 7 white - or with the blue field ending on the 5th stripe - or the blue field with 58 stars. Any of those variations would look like the American flag to the casual viewer, but it wouldn't actually be an American flag. That way photographers and other visual artists could use that product in any manner they were inspired without offending those who hold the flag as a sacred and inviolate object.

Artists could put one of these products on the floor for people to walk all over, or enclose the flag in a jar of urine, or even burn it. They wouldn't actually be treating an American flag with disrespect, and they would still achieve the desired emotional impact.

Of course, we would have to have the flags made in China or Mexico where labor and materials are really cheap.
